AFRICA

Simien Mountain & Ras Dashen Trek

ETHIOPIA
SIMIEN MOUNTAIN & RAS DASHEN TREK

Trip Grade: Tough

Group Size: Minimum 10

The Simien Mountains form one of Africa’s largest and most spectacular mountain ranges. With many of the peaks rising above 4000m, they make an awe-inspiring sight and contain Ethiopia’s highest mountain – Ras Dashen, standing majestically at 4620m.

Your trek takes you through the Simien Mountain National Park, an area abundant with wildlife and exotic vegetation, fertile cultivated terraces and vibrant hillside villages. Your ultimate goal is the summit of Ras Dashen - the spectacular 360 degree views from the top will take your breath away.

This is a tough, challenging and incredibly rewarding trek, and you will remember the beauty of the countryside, the diversity of the flora and fauna and the friendliness of the local people for a long time to come.

Excludes: insurance, visa, 2 meals, airport departure tax (if applicable), tips, personal spending money.

Sahara Trek

MOROCCO
SAHARA TREK

Trip Grade: Moderate

Group Size: Minimum 10

Dates: February / March and October / November 2009 (10 days / 9 nights)

The Sahara desert stretches 4800km from east to west. Its landscape varies from a stony flat expanse to perfect wind-blown sand dunes, broken only by the occasional oasis. The feeling of space and utter remoteness is awesome. With proud Berbers as your guides and a small caravan of camels to carry your supplies, you trek 100km through this varied and stunning landscape.

A free day exploring the sights and souks of Marrakech provides a real contrast to your week’s challenge, and a great way to celebrate your achievement!

Kilimanjaro Trek

TANZANIA
KILIMANJARO TREK

Trip Grade: Extreme

Group Size: Minimum 10 / Maximum 40

Africa’s highest peak at 5896m, Kilimanjaro is also the highest freestanding mountain in the world. Huge permanent glaciers flow from its snow-capped summit, which rises high above the dusty plains; these views are your reward for pushing your limits both physically and mentally. Your trek takes the less-trodden and more gradual Machame route, allowing for better acclimatisation to the altitude and a safer ascent to the summit.

ASIA

Trek the Great Wall

CHINA
TREK THE GREAT WALL

Trip Grade: Moderate

Group Size: Minimum 10

Dates: April and October 2009 (11 days / 10 nights)

Stretching 6000km in a dotted line across China, the Great Wall was begun in the 5th Century BC. As it snakes across the mountains it conjures up an incredible sense of history – and connects us to the vast remoteness of rural China.

Your trek is very varied, as you pass through woodland and terraced farmland, following the contours of these beautiful mountains north of Beijing – almost always within sight of the Great Wall.

This challenge is physically demanding but very rewarding, offering fabulous scenery, unparalleled views of the Great Wall, and a fascinating insight into a rich culture and history.

Khangai Horse Trek

MONGOLIA
KHANGAI HORSE TREK

Trip Grade: Moderate

Group Size: Minimum 10 / Maximum 30

Dates: August 2009 (13 days / 12 nights)

Mongolia stirs up visions of wide open landscapes, wild horses galloping across the steppes and a nomadic life little changed since the times of Genghis Khan.

You ride sturdy Mongolian horses for 200km through the remote valleys of the Khangai mountains of central Mongolia, witnessing the traditional herding lifestyle of the Khalkh Mongols. You follow tracks through valleys and mountains, crossing rivers and passing encampments of traditional round felt gers before finishing your journey at Kharkhorin, the historic centre of Genghis Khan's Mongol Empire. This is a rare opportunity to experience the beautiful, un-crowded landscapes of the 'land of blue sky'.

Trek to Everest Base Camp

NEPAL
TREK TO EVEREST BASE CAMP

Group Size: Minimum 10 / Maximum 30

Dates: March / April and November 2009 (19 days / 18 nights)

Nepal is a country in a league of its own with breathtakingly beautiful scenery, a fascinating culture and friendly people. Meeting the villagers whilst trekking through this gem of a nation is one of its greatest pleasures.

Your route takes us via the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar through beautiful valleys, dense forests and across glacial rivers. Your goal is Kalapatar, the renowned Everest viewpoint on the approach to Base Camp. You also have time to explore the colourful and frenetic capital of Kathmandu.

Cycle the Remote North

VIETNAM
CYCLE THE REMOTE NORTH

Trip Grade: Tough

Group Size: Minimum 10 / Maximum 40

Dates: October 2009 (13 days / 12 nights)

Vietnam is an incredibly diverse country, with ancient cultural sites, amazing landscapes and hospitable people. Your challenge explores the remote north, passing through karst limestone cliffs, dazzling green rice paddies and lush jungle as well as sleepy villages well off the beaten track. You also have time to explore bustling Hanoi. This is a wonderful, tough cycle challenge through a land where the bicycle is still the most important mode of transport!

Northern Village Trek

VIETNAM
NORTHERN VILLAGE TREK

Trip Grade: Moderate

Group Size: Minimum 10

Dates: April and October / November 2009 (10 days / 9 nights)

The Pu Luong limestone landscape of Northern Vietnam is an area of outstanding beauty, cultural interest and high biodiversity. Stretching from Mai Chau in the northwest to Cuc Phuong National Park, it is blessed with rich unspoilt forest, limestone karst panoramas and fertile rice terraces.

You will see few tourists venturing this far off the beaten track, but as you trek through the forested hills and paddy-fields you will experience first-hand the everyday life and culture of the minority Thai and Muong people. You sleep in traditional villages houses each night. Time in bustling, colonial Hanoi provides a wonderful contrast to the tranquil remoteness of your trek.

AUSTRALASIA

Abel Tasman Coastal Trek

NEW ZEALAND
ABEL TASMAN COASTAL TREK

Trip Grade: Moderate

Group Size: Minimum 10 / Maximum 40

Dates: April and November 2009 (12 days / 11 nights)

New Zealand is famed for its unspoilt natural scenery. Your challenging trek takes you to the renowned Abel Tasman National Park on the northern tip of the South Island. Your route follows the coast along isolated golden beaches, fjord-like inlets and coastal hills thick with native rainforest; the scenery is beautiful. You then move inland, trekking among mountains and lakes before transferring to the East Coast, where a fabulous mountain day-trek offers a panoramic view of the beautiful coastline.

CARIBBEAN

Cycle Western Cuba

CUBA
CYCLE WESTERN CUBA

Trip Grade: Moderate

Group Size: Minimum 10 / Maximum 40

Dates: October 2009 (10 days / 9 nights)

Cuba, home to sweeping Caribbean beaches, misty jungle-covered hills and tobacco plantations, is known more for its unique culture and history than its beautiful landscapes. Your challenge offers the opportunity to witness the Cuban way of life while you cycle through the island's hills and villages.

Western Cuba is a region known for its relaxed atmosphere and beautiful scenery. You pass the spectacular rock formations and caves of the Viñales valley, cycling over lush jungly hills and past coffee plantations, before circling back alongside white sandy beaches.

EUROPE

Icecap Trek

ICELAND
ICECAP TREK

Trip Grade: Tough

Group Size: Minimum 10

Dates: August 2009 (9 days / 8 nights)

Iceland is a land of incredible contrast and beauty. Its wild volcanic landscapes, glaciers, hot springs, geysers and waterfalls, combined with its rich history and folklore make it a fascinating country to explore.

Your challenge takes us from the active Mt Hekla to Landmannalaugar and then south through the mountains towards the glaciers and permanent icecaps that mark your finish point. This is a tough challenge though wild and remote country. There may not be many home comforts en-route, but the spectacular landscapes and isolated trails more than make up for this. You will return from this trek thoroughly awed by Nature!

NACC Walks for Colitis and Crohn's

We would like to thank all who took part in the York, Swansea and London NACC Walks for Colitis and Crohn’s. The atmosphere was fantastic and £40,000 was pledged on the day. Together with Gift Aid this should raise over £52,000 in sponsorship. We would also like to thank all our many helpers and volunteers as without them the walks would not be possible.

We look forward to seeing you all in 2009.

Tandem Skydiving

Fast becoming a favourite sport and raising £8,122 for NACC in 2006 and with spring in the air many have called for packs on our tandem skydiving - you will be put in touch with the nearest skydiving airfield nearest to you. How brave are you? The idea fills my stomach with butterflies - according to one of our supporters - if you are going to mess your pants what better way to do it!
